STAY ON COURSE
God spared our lives to see this New Year. With the New Year comes lots of resolutions. Some resolutions will be kept, while others will fall by the wayside. We always start the New Year strong with good intentions, making promises to read the Bible daily, exercise more, love more, eat healthy, etc. However, the Bible teaches us that our physical health is equally as important as our spiritual health.
In 1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV), Paul says it best: "Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body."
This verse serves as a constant reminder that we should be intentional in how we treat and care for our bodies.
It is in our best interest to treat our bodies well. Resting, physical activities, and eating habits are a few things we have to take into consideration if we intend to be healthy while using our bodies as tools that glorify God.
If we can trust our navigating system on our phones and in our cars, why cannot we trust God for His plans and directions in our lives? When we do not follow the course given to us by the navigating system, it will automatically say "recalculating route." Why? Because we changed the directions that we were given to follow.
Throughout the scripture, we are reminded of God's direction over our lives. He is our good Shepherd who leads us if we look to Him for guidance. The Bible teaches us that God's plan leads to joy and contentment. When we pray for God's guidance and discernment through the Holy Spirit, we can rest assured that God will provide wisdom!
Therefore, if you find yourselves going off course, just make the necessary adjustments to get back on course again. God has many plans in store for us in this New Year; however, we cannot serve God wholeheartedly if we are sick and off course. The same God that healed Job, restored health to the woman with the issue of blood, and cleansed Naaman from his skin disease has the power to bless us with health and point us in the right direction if we put our trust in Him.
Faith Step: How do we trust God's direction? By resisting the urge to take our own path in life and trust God for His directions.
Prayer:
Gracious Father, we thank You for the assurance that our steps are established by You. Today, we commit our way to You. We surrender our plans, dreams, and desires into Your loving hands. Help us to trust in Your guidance, even when the path is unclear. When we stumble, lift us up and set our feet on solid ground. Uphold us with Your mighty hand, Lord. May we delight in Your ways and walk in obedience to Your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
