Singing of God’s Goodness

As we enter 2025, we are reminded of God's unchanging faithfulness and goodness. Every new year brings opportunities to reflect on God’s mercy, celebrate God’s faithfulness, and recommit ourselves to walking in God’s purpose.
There’s a beautiful song that resonates deeply in my heart, reflecting the very essence of God’s goodness.
 
These lyrics from Jenn Johnson’s “The Goodness of God” stir my soul each time I hear or sing them:
“I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been held in Your hands...”

This song reminds me of a powerful truth: from the moment we wake up until we lay our heads down, we are held in the faithful hands of our loving God. Through every trial, joy, and unknown ahead, God remains steadfast. God is our Shepherd, Friend, and Father—leading us through fires and walking beside us in the darkest nights.

For many of us, the last few years have been marked by moments of loss, pain, and unanswered questions. These difficult times often leave us wondering why and searching for meaning in the midst of our struggles. The losses we experience—whether of loved ones, opportunities, or dreams—can feel overwhelming. They challenge our faith, test our endurance, and sometimes even make us question God’s plan. Yet, in these moments of deep sorrow, we are reminded that God’s presence is constant, even when God’s ways are hard to understand.

One of the greatest comforts during trials is knowing we don’t journey through them alone. Psalm 34:18 assures us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” God is not distant from our pain; God is present, walking alongside us, holding us in mercy and love.

Difficult times often reveal God’s sustaining power in ways we might not notice otherwise. We may not always see the answers to our “why,” but we can rest assured that God’s plans are still good, even when life doesn’t feel that way. God is in the midst of our pain, and we see how God has carried us through. What once felt insurmountable becomes a testimony of God’s faithfulness and our hope.

Hope doesn’t deny the reality of pain but looks beyond it. Biblical hope anchors us to God's unshakable promises. One of those promises is found in Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” God is at work even in the darkest moments, weaving redemption into our story.

Entering a new year is an opportunity to embrace hope anew. While the pain of the past may not be forgotten, it does not define our future. Lamentations 3:22-23 beautifully remind us: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
 
May this year be a time of focused intention on God’s will, steadfast trust in God’s plan, and infinite possibilities. Rest assured, God’s goodness and mercy will follow you, whether you encounter mountaintops or valleys. So, let’s keep singing of God’s goodness because God is worthy of every breath, every moment, and every song.

Prayer: Lord, as I enter 2025, I bring my joys, my pain, and my questions to You. Thank You for walking with me through every trial and for Your unfailing goodness. Even when I didn’t understand, You never let me go.

This year, help me trust You more, find hope in Your promises, and embrace the new mercies You provide each day. Use my story for Your glory and guide me as I walk into this new season. Let me keep singing of Your goodness, no matter what comes my way.
Thank You for being my Shepherd, my strength, and my peace. I trust You with this year, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
