GOD ON THE MOUNTAIN

It's amazing when you read the Bible and see how the prophets communed with God on the mountaintop. They left their place of comfort and climbed the hill to be away from others to spend some "alone time" with God. Mountaintop experience! However, that same God we celebrate at the top of the mountain when things are going well is the same God we need to celebrate when we are down in the valley.

We can all attest to our mountaintop experience with God, but can we attest to God's goodness when we are down the valley? The same God we praise when things are going well is the same God we should continue to praise when things are not going well with us.

Mark 9:2-6 NIV "After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There, He was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."

Jesus took His inner circle to a mountaintop with Him, and they experienced a "good thing." Why the mountaintop? It serves as a powerful symbol of God's power, authority, and presence. That is where we find solitude, peace, and quietness.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been listening to a song sung by Lynda Randall, "God on the Mountain." I encourage you to listen to this song.

Here are the lyrics to the song:
"Life is easy, when you're up on the mountain
And you've got peace of mind, like you've never known
But things change when you're down in the valley
Don't lose faith, for you're never alone
For the God on the mountain, is still God in the valley
When things go wrong, He'll make them right
And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times
The God of the day is still God in the night
You talk of faith when you're up on the mountain
But talk comes so easy when life's at it's best
Now it's down in the valleys, of trials and temptations
That's where your faith, is really put to the test
For the God on the mountain is still God in the valley
When things go wrong, He'll make them right
And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times
The God of the day, is still God in the night
The God of the day, is still God in the night"

Faith Step:
Our mountaintop experiences are moments of spiritual intimacy with God. These are moments of affirmation. Our experiences are meant to strengthen us in our journey into a meaningful connection with God and with others.

Prayer:
God, we give you thanks that we can praise you in the good times and we can praise during the bad times. No matter what situation is before us; we are going to praise you, because you are the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen!
